Greater Vancouver Food Bank

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) was established in 1982 when many small organizations, church groups and concerned citizens joined together in response to the hunger crisis during the economic recession in 1981. The purpose of the GVBS was to be a temporary social service provider; however, because the number of those suffering from hunger problems has continued to increase, the GVFBS has become one of the most important non-government funded food assistance providers in Canada.

Today, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society helps feed more than 9,000 people each week in 16 depots located in Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver and the North Shore. Additionally, the GVFBS aids over 100 agencies within these areas, providing help to another 16,000 individuals weekly. 41% of the recipients are children.

Our association supports the GVFBS by holding themed food drives at each of our major events.

The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) is organization dedicated to alleviating problems of anorexia and other eating disorders. Its methods include education, newsletters, counseling, self-help groups, and providing funds for research.

Our association promotes awareness of this cause through our annual Love Your Body, Love Yourself Newsletter and Challenge. We encourage you to join the challenge!

LOVE YOUR BODY, LOVE YOURSELF CHALLENGE 2009

From February 22-28th, 2009, we challenge you to take a moment for yourself. You can try experimenting in the kitchen wtih a new healthy recipe or try a new physical activity or maybe go back to an exercise class or DVD you loved. You can also challenge yourslef to finally read that book that has been on your must read list forever, or just spend time with an old friend. No matter what you challenge yourself to do, take time to appreciate your body and yourself.

Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation

The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation was established in 1967 in honor of our Fiftieth Anniversary. Through grants and loans, the Foundation assists members and their children to complete their education or continue with graduate studies. The Educational Foundation also provides funding for educational programs and leadership training for undergraduate members and advisors.

Our association fundraises for the Educational Foundation through individual donations and Good Search. Delta Phi Epsilon Centennial Fund

On March 17, 2017, Delta Phi Epsilon will celebrate its Centennial.

Our association fundraises for the Centennial Fund through our annual DIMES fundraiser. Each year at Founders' Day Tea, our members donation $0.10 for each year of Delta Phi Epsilon's existence. Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a multi-organ disease affecting primarily the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, CF causes severe breathing problems. A build-up of thick mucus makes it difficult to clear bacteria and leads to cycles of infection and inflammation, which damage the delicate lung tissues. They must follow a demanding daily routine of physical therapy to keep the lungs free of congestion and infection.

Cystic Fibrosis has been an official philanthropy of Delta Phi Epsilon since 1958. In appreciation of the Sorority's fundraising efforts, the CFF named a research fellowship in honor of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Annual Membership Dues

Dues are $55 per year ($30 per year for Lifetime Links). They cover both local and international alumnae dues, and are due each January.

Alumna Initiation

Become a DPE as an Alumna! Alumnae Initiates are women initiated into Delta Phi Epsilon as alumnae members. They may be women who never attended university, who attended a school that did not have a Delta Phi Epsilon chapter or who didn’t join a National Panhellenic Conference sorority while in university.

An alumnae initiate may be any woman who meets the high standards of Delta Phi Epsilon membership. She may be a friend, neighbor, mother, or sister of a Delta Phi Epsilon. She may be an outstanding community leader, professional woman, or homemaker. These women will enjoy new friendships, involvement, and opportunities to make worthwhile contributions to the Sorority.

History of Our Alumnae Association

The Vancouver Alumnae Association was charted on March 28, 2003 by 11 members of the Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon. Our goal was to create a group that would help nurture and expand our established sisterhood after graduation and to help further our personal growth. Our first interest group, The Iris Book Club, held its first meeting in April 2003. We also published the first issue of our Association newsletter, The Horseshoe, in Spring 2004.

About Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority

In today’s world a woman can be so many things. You can be a friend, be a mother, be a teacher, or even be the president for example. Delta Phi Epsilon encourages each sister to above all else, be true to who you are.

The mission of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority is to develop in women a social consciousness and a commitment to think and act for the greater good. We assure continuous development and achievement for women through individual attention and smart strategic growth.

History of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority

On March 17, 1917, five women at New York University Law School took a pledge of sisterhood and loyalty and so founded the Alpha Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, one of the first non-sectarian, social sororities and the only one founded at a professional school. Five years later on March 17, 1922, Delta Phi Epsilon was formally incorporated under laws of the State of New York. On December 5, 1922, stretching out to international boundaries, the first Canadian chapter was installed at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Growth has been steady, but expansion in numbers has never been favored over strengthening within. From this small group making up the first chapter, there are now more than 45,000 members with chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Our chapters, both undergraduate and alumnae, enjoy a distinguished reputation for scholarship, service, and leadership.

Each year on March 17, undergraduates and alumnae celebrate Founders Day, honoring the women to whom each chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon is directly indebted for the establishment of our sisterhood. We honor them for the fine ideals and purposes which inspired them. Over three quarters of a century after Delta Phi Epsilon began, there are women who still embrace the beliefs of our founders by sharing sisterhood in their hearts and lives.

Minna Goldsmith Mahler, Eva Effron Robin, Ida Bienstock Landau, Sylvia Steierman Cohn and Dorothy Cohen Schwartzman, five young law students saw Delta Phi Epsilon as a society to "promote good fellowship among the women students among the various colleges in the country...to create a secret society composed of these women based upon their good moral character, regardless of nationality or creed...to have distinct chapters at various colleges..." with the motto Esse Quam Videri: to be rather than to seem to be.
